Frequently Asked Questions

ORIGINAL PAINTINGS

How can I buy an original painting?

Thank you for considering my work! Original paintings are sometimes released in collections, other times as one-off releases. Available paintings can be purchased directly from my website.

Can I commission a painting?

Absolutely! You can get the conversation going by sending an email to hello@emilytingey.com with any ideas you have in mind for your commission, some paintings you are most drawn to, and the size you are considering. Please keep in mind that due to the nature of commissioned works, the cost is higher than original works.

PRINTS

Can you tell me about the print quality and details?

Unframed prints
I work with a local printer where all unframed prints are made to order and shipped from their warehouse. All their giclée prints are made on Epson printers using the latest Ultrachrome archival pigment inks on naturally acid-free cotton papers or canvas. With care, the giclèe prints should last for generations.

About the papers:
Somerset Velvet for Epson has always been the first paper choice among serious artists and printmakers. Ever since the 1700s and the days of handmade paper, Somerset has enjoyed a reputation for quality. That reputation has continued to grow through the years. Now Epson brings you this old-world paper, with an ink jet coating, to meet the quality requirements of the most demanding printmaker. Somerset Velvet for Epson is a 100% cotton, acid-free paper that delivers long-lasting prints when printed with Epson UltraChrome Ink. As the name implies, Somerset Velvet has a softer texture than Epson Hot Press Natural. It is just a bit less dense at 255 gsm.

Hahnemühle William Turner is a natural white, 100% cotton, paper that is ideal for fine art giclèe prints. It is a popular choice for watercolor painters. It also makes striking and expressive photo reproductions. The mould-made watercolor paper features a distinct textured surface. With its premium matte inkjet coating, it meets the highest industry standards for density, color gamut, color gradation, and image sharpness. 310 gsm

Framed prints
All framed prints will be printed on Hahnemuele Photo Rag paper. Mats will be standard widths.

Stretched Canvas
Your stretched canvas print will be printed on PremierArt Museum Bright Satin Canvas—a poly/cotton canvas with a natural white base. This is then layered with a coating for optimal protection.

I want a print in a size not offered. Can I do that?

In order to maintain the quality of the prints, the largest size offered is as large as the print can be made. Smaller and custom sizes can be requested. When you have decided on which size you would like your print to be (I recommend using painters tape on your wall to help you decide), send an email to hello@emilytingey.com with 1. the print(s) name, 2, the size print you want, 3. if unframed, the paper you want, 4. if framed, which frame option you want and whether or not you want matting. I’ll confirm if that size is possible and will create a custom listing where you can complete your order.

What type of glass is used in your frames?

My framers use acrylic as the glazing for your frame. The acrylic is lightweight and beautifully clear while offering superior UV protection and durability. The acrylic is not anti-glare, but it does offer a nice natural level of reflection.

I can’t decide which print I want. How do I choose?

Art is a very personal choice. Choosing your art piece should go beyond what will fit in your current space and instead consider which piece speaks to you most. The hope is that this is something you love for years to come, rather than something you purchase to fill an empty wall. Our homes are an expression of ourselves. Our moods change and our styles subtly shift back and forth. If it’s an option, consider getting an array of prints that you can switch out depending on the season or the mood, or move between rooms to fit the needs of your home.

What size print should I get?

Art has a way of appearing smaller when it is hung on the wall. A general rule of thumb is to go at least one size larger than you initially think. I’ve created a handy worksheet for how to size and hang your art.

Digital Downloads

How does the digital download process work?

Here is an explanation for digital downloads here.

SHIPPING

Hmm, where is my order?

Once the shipment has left my studio, it is in the hands of the shipping service. While both domestic and international orders may sometimes take longer than we would hope, shipments rarely go missing. Unfortunately, I do not have any more information than the tracking number provides you. If you have further questions, please reach out to the tracking service used (it will be noted on the email you received when your order was shipped) and provide them with your tracking number.

My package was stolen or lost. Now what?

GAH! This is the worst. Before contacting me at hello@emilytingey.com, please follow USPS Guidelines for filing a missing/lost package. After receiving confirmation of the case number/claim, please send a communication with a copy (screenshot or attachment) of the missing/lost package claim. I will review cases on an individual basis and respond accordingly.

Can I make a return?

Every order, commission, and sale is handled with care and as much clarity and transparency as possible. My goal is for you to be completely thrilled with your purchase! Because of this, all sales are final except in certain situations. Please take the time to read descriptions carefully and the check colors on multiple screens if you are concerned about color variations. I try my best to represent the colors and tones in my work honestly and clearly.

How will my artwork be shipped?

Originals:

  • All artwork is wrapped in paper, padded extremely well, and sent in a well-fitting sturdy cardboard box.

  • Most artwork will ship via USPS or UPS and most packages arrive within 6-14 days (domestic) from time of shipping (includes tracking & insurance). International shipments will be sent via USPS or other carrier. International buyers, please note that shipping charges may vary from the amount you pay at checkout. Please email me with questions or to get an estimate.

Prints:

  • All prints are handled with the utmost care; packaged beautifully in paper or plastic sleeve.

  • Prints 11x14 and smaller are mailed in a sturdy flat mailer while prints 16x20 and larger are mailed in a thick tube.

  • Shipped via USPS First Class Mail or Priority Mail (usually arrives within 1-3 days within the US)

International Shipments

  • Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on package weight and distance. If there is any discrepancy -/+ we will let you know via email.

  • International packages are a bit outside of my control. Border fees, duties, and handling fees may be charged by other countries. Tracking is also quite unreliable with international shipments. If you are experiencing delays, please be patient. I have yet to experience a lost shipment and I trust it is on its way.

If you have any questions about your shipped order, please contact the shipping service (usually USPS, though it will be noted on the email you received when your order was shipped) and provide them with your tracking number. I do not have any additional information than the tracking number provides.

Shipping costs cover fees, packaging supplies, time, labor, and storage.
